About Us
Serving Agriculture Through Reliable Water Management Since 1954
The Colusa County Water District (CCWD) is a public irrigation district located in Colusa County, California, near the community of Arbuckle. Established in 1954, the District was organized to secure and deliver water from the Central Valley Project (CVP) to supplement local groundwater supplies and support the region's agricultural economy.
CCWD provides water exclusively for agricultural irrigation purposes. By combining imported surface water with responsible groundwater management, the District helps ensure a dependable water supply for the farms and communities it serves.
Our History
When the District was formed in 1954, its primary purpose was to contract for the delivery of Central Valley Project water once it became available. This water would supplement local groundwater resources and provide a more reliable source of irrigation water for agricultural lands within the District.
Water service became possible through the construction of the Tehama-Colusa Canal, a key component of the Central Valley Project. Today, the District receives water directly from the Tehama-Colusa Canal and its associated pumping facilities. CCWD is responsible for distributing this water throughout the District to the agricultural lands within its boundaries.
